At UCSB, I teach mechanical engineering design which is the perfect marriage of creativity and analytical skill.  For precision machine design, technical competence is required but for the majority of the design process, creativity, resourcefulness and inquisition are the most important characteristics of an engineer.  Coincidentally, these three qualities are built into toddlers and young children.  I believe we can start igniting the passion for engineering and hands-on science at a very young age and I’d like to explore this with P-12 educators in the Santa Barbara / Goleta area.  If you’re an educator in the area, send me a note and let’s work together to revolutionize education.

If you’re a student at UCSB, contact me about getting involved.  We’ll start hacking education by making new products to help children learn the design process or by creating new curriculum with our P-12 partners in the area.
